Knowing the Boss
S_Giménez 26 uru 10 11 15
3 14 50| At least some newspapers said that about
Mr. Giménez game when he was an active football
player. He was born at Uruguay, in a small town called Mercedes,
26 years ago. His career started at the tender age of six, playing
for the local team Sendas-Racing until his first transfer came,
the Olimpico FC signed him when he was twelve years old. Speaking
about his humble beginnings, Giménez said:
"The first three years, being the slower
player of the team, the coach "suggested" that I could
be more useful at the goal, so I became a goalkeeper with a certain
success (chosen to my league's all star team at 1989.) But secretly,
I was wishing to play as a defensive midfielder and manage my team's
play from behind the centre field... one day, with 10 years old
the decision was made; and my reputation granted me an opportunity.
Since that day I played only that position. Perhaps that's why I
see so much of myself at X_Pullins; he plays just like I at his
age, but with much more style. (Laughs)"
He played six years for Olimpico FC, being always
a first team player, without missing ever a game and only one yellow
card...
"That was the most amusing thing I've ever
lived on a football field. I was never booked until that game: it
was a really small field, and in the middle of the action, a fan
blown a whistle. I decided to give the ball to the referee and picked
it up of my own team's box... I was sure that the referee had whistled
so I gave it to him. He said 'Thanks kid", booked me and awarded
a penalty to our league rivals who tied the game... I had 11 years
and that was my debut game."
When the now Ripnrun United manager (who worked
with Centocelle Centrals at Season 10, when they were demoted to
Division 4) speaks about that incident, everyone at the room tried
hard not tolaugh... but was impossible; Gimenez laugh first and
the formal tone of the interview was lost for good. Then he started
drinking "mate" a hot infusion native of his country,
and I risked myself trying to drink one... it's hot like hell, and
tastes... bad. He laughs really hard seeing my expression.
"Gotcha! You look like a sick kid! I'm sorry...
I'm sorry... Please don't throw up there! Please don't... Damn!"
After Olimpico FC, he played one season for the
also local Nacional FC, and another for the C.A. Roma. He retired
after that, determined to be a football manager... After the traumatic
experience of managing Centocelle Centrals and see it crash and
burn under his command, he was contracted for Ripnrun United. After
his first season at Liberty Stadium, he repaired his image, taking
the 4th place at the competitive Division 2. His contract was extended
for three more seasons. by a delighted Board of Directors.
